What is Trezor.io/start?

Trezor.io/start is the official onboarding and resources page for Trezor hardware wallets. It centralizes secure downloads, installation instructions, firmware updates, and step-by-step guidance for initializing your device. The site is designed to keep the security-critical workflow simple and auditable: generate keys on the device, record your recovery seed offline, and confirm transactions on the Trezor screen.

Official source only: Always use the trezor.io/start URL or the Trezor Suite app linked from it. Avoid search-result copies and suspicious third-party mirrors.

Download Trezor Suite (desktop & web)

Desktop

Trezor Suite desktop is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. It provides a full-featured, offline-friendly interface for device setup, firmware management, account management, and transaction history. The desktop app is recommended for users who prefer a persistent, local environment.

Web

If you prefer not to install software, the web version of Trezor Suite offers the same primary workflows through a browser interface. When using the web version, ensure you are on the official site and consider using a dedicated browser profile to minimize extension interference.

Quick start — initialize your Trezor

1. Unbox & inspect

Open the package and ensure tamper-evident packaging is intact. Check accessories (cable, recovery card) and inspect the device screen for physical damage.

2. Connect & visit Trezor.io/start

Use the supplied cable to connect your device to a computer or supported mobile host. Open trezor.io/start — the site detects the device and displays the correct installer or web workflow.

3. Install firmware if required

If prompted, install official firmware through the flow shown on the site or in Trezor Suite. Do not use firmware from third-party sources — only accept the installer presented by the official start page.

4. Create or recover a wallet

Choose Create new to generate a fresh recovery seed, or Recover wallet to restore from an existing seed. Write the recovery words exactly as shown on the supplied card — no photos, no screenshots.

5. Set a PIN & verify

Set a device PIN to protect local access. Complete the device's verification prompts to ensure you recorded the seed correctly.

Security best practices

If anyone — including "support" — asks for your recovery seed, refuse. The recovery seed is the single most powerful secret for your funds.

Using Trezor Suite — features overview

Trezor Suite provides account management for many cryptocurrencies, portfolio overviews, transaction history, and device settings. Key features include:

Troubleshooting & common issues

Device not detected

Try a different USB port and cable, disable interfering browser extensions, or restart the host system. Installing Trezor Bridge or using the desktop Suite can resolve detection problems.

Firmware error

If a firmware update fails, reconnect and retry through the official flow. If the device remains unresponsive, consult official Trezor support — do not attempt untrusted recovery tools.

Forgot PIN

Resetting the device is necessary to clear a forgotten PIN. Recover access using the recovery seed — if the seed is lost, funds cannot be restored.

Advanced topics

Advanced users can enable passphrases to create hidden wallets, integrate Trezor with third-party wallets that support hardware signing (for specialized workflows), or connect Suite to their own full node where supported for enhanced privacy. These options increase control but also increase responsibility — understand backup and recovery implications before choosing them.

FAQ

Can I recover my wallet on another device?
Yes. Use the recovery seed on any compatible hardware wallet that supports the same standard (BIP39/BIP44/BIP32 where applicable). Ensure you use a trusted device and verified firmware.
Is the passphrase required?
No. A passphrase is optional and creates a hidden wallet. It adds security but also requires you to reliably remember or store the passphrase separately from the seed.
What if my recovery seed is exposed?
If you suspect exposure, create a new wallet immediately on a secure device and transfer funds to the new seed. Treat the exposed seed as compromised.
